Given that I swore never to get a LiveJournal for the sake of simple posts about everyday life, obviously something must have happened to convince me it was worth registering for one. What was it?

Japan.

Twenty years old, obsessed with Asian linguistics, and on my way to the Land of the Rising Sun for my second sojourn there to study the Japanese language as part of my quest to become a translator: given the madness of my last visit, I assume the next ten months will be significantly more interesting than my usual daily grind. Rather than email my scattered friends and family separately, I've decided to post here at least twice a week (hopefully more often, but I'm allowing for internet availability and my own lazy absentmindedness) and keep you all updated at once on my goings-on.

These will be the voyages of the Tobu Ishi, a nonsensical Japanese screenname meaning "flying rock". My ten month mission? To chronicle my time in Japan in the most interesting and memorable fashion possible. At the very least, it shouldn't be boring! <3
